I’m a 25-year-old city-girl-gone-small-town reporter working in Hinton, Alta. as a multimedia journalist.
I love to travel and each summer I like to embark on an epic excursion. Last summer I got married, the biggest adventure of them all, and we had our honeymoon in Peru. We gravitated towards a country where we could have a little adventure and be pushed into a completely new culture different than our own. Earlier in the summer we travelled to the great outback of Australia so I could meet his family for the first time face-to-face.
The summer before that I went to India on a field school. I had the privilege of shooting a short documentary on family, while spending time at an Ashram and meeting the wonderful Sharan family. My classmates and I travelled across northern India where we were exposed to a culture wired completely different than our North American structure. After India, I spent some time backpacking across Nepal, where I connected with a Nepalese girl and spent 10 days with her and her mother. I trekked a little through the Annapurna and met some really great people along the way. There’s a few more summers before that filled with epic adventures. Needless to say, I’m a junkie for new experiences, and love to be thrown into new adventures.
On the logistical side of things, I graduated with a Bachelor in Communication majoring in Journalism, and a Certificate of Achievement in International Communication from Mount Royal University. I’ve been nominated as “reporter of the year” for my work at a student publication, The Reflector, and as well the winner of the Digital Alberta Young Talent Award for photography. Breaking news, politics, social justice and religion are the beats I like to cover. So that’s me in a nutshell. Well, kind of.
TLDR; I’m an adventurer who is fully-qualified for all things journalism
